The Australian Horse Industry Council in partnership with the NSW & Federal Governments have created a Horse Emergency Contact Database (HECD). |
|
In an emergency there will be times when authorities need to contact horse owners. It maybe a fire, flood or a disease outbreak. Until now there has been no simple way to do this. The HECD will provide: · SMS alerts to your mobile phone if there is an emergency · seasonal bulletins and information · newsletters from the AHIC about industry wide issues
As an additional benefit for the horse industry, organisations and service providers can have their contact details |
|
made available on the internet. Registering your details on the HECD will help protect the health and welfare of your horses. In the initial phase the emergency authorities only in NSW will have access to the database. The service will be offered to other states in the coming months. Consultative Committee on Animal Welfare (NCCAW). The Strategy includes animals used in research and teaching, animals used for the production of food and fibre and other products, companion and guide animals, animals used for recreation, entertainment and display, native and introduced wildlife and feral animals. In the next phase of the implementation of the AAWS, the Primary Industries Standing Committee (PISC) is coordinating the development of an implementation plan in consultation with key stakeholders and will provide advice on how best to address the issue of economic impacts that might arise from implementation of the Strategy.

The Animal Welfare Unit within the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is currently distributing the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS) to those organisations that are stakeholders in animal welfare. It is vitally important that you review the Strategy and provide feedback on its impact. The Australian Government has provided $6 million to support the implementation of this strategy. The strategy is for all Australians and all uses of animals, and is a blueprint for the future of animal welfare in Australia.
In May 2004, the Primary Industries Ministerial Council (PIMC) approved the Australian Animal Welfare Strategy (AAWS), which was developed under the auspices of the National |
